CHAPTER 14

“To begin with, let’s stop being afraid,” she said, rolling up the cuffs of her dress.

“Wow!” He bowed his head in respect, but couldn’t keep a malicious comment: “Novel idea!”

“Stop it immediately! I have an idea!”

“Will you fill me in?”

“Not yet.”

“How’s that?”

“That’s how!” she said and began to pray.

“Hey! What are you doing?! Now all your angels will fly in!”

“That's it!”

“I’m such a fool, I thought you got wiser...” He said sadly and she continued the prayer.

And indeed: after some time, one of the angels appeared in front of them.

Mary paused to think. While she had been waiting for news from Michael, she was constantly praying. But nobody came, nobody responded. What is the difference between that prayer and this one? Why was she sure, how did she feel that now they will certainly respond? Are there any similarities with the people’s prayers, some of which God hears and takes into account, while others doesn’t?

“How dare you!” The arrived angel exclaimed and waved his hand, directing a dark blue ray at Mary.

Michael reacted rapidly and sent back a bright yellow ray. Two rays met in the middle of their ways, a deafening sound of explosion came out, the smell of smoke as from the fire could be felt in the air, and a black spot formed on the ceiling just above the point of collision of two rays.

Michael, who set up a protective dome, was hoping with all his heart that the incident would remain u

oticed at least to George and his nurse.

“Calm down!” he shouted to the angel, who came to Mary’s call. “Don’t you see that she’s asking for help!”

Mary smiled gently, standing behind him: he had protected her.

“She is? Help?! She has no right not only for help, but even to ask for help! From now on, she, who has renounced God, has no right to anything!”

“Even the Bible says that everyone has the right to forgiveness if they truly repent. She, I think, repents…” Michael objected, trying to smooth things out. Although this meant that he would have to act alone, since she would most likely be taken away, punished, and, like a little girl, wouldn’t be let out walking with a bad boy. He wanted it to be good for her first of all. And, therefore, they need to go against their desires.

“How do you know about the Bible?” the angel squinted his eyes suspiciously. “You’re not even able to hold it in your hands...”

“That’s ridiculous! The imps are indeed very able to hold it in their hands. They just disdain because of their ignorance.”

“So, you don’t disdain?”

“I’m very inquisitive!”

“It’s a lie!”

“So, another child is going to lecture me... Mary, where you at?”

“Here,” she looked timidly from behind his back.

“If “here”, then explain your colleagues the essentials you haven’t known yourself recently.

“I think this conversation can be postponed… Now there are more important things to do.”

He raised an eyebrow with interest and kind of surprise.

“We have to save Georgie. So we aren’t going to waste time on nothings. After all, we don’t have much of it. I think that you need to cooperate. Therefore, Michael, I called my, as you say, colleague. Perhaps, we may need help from your colleagues as well, but I don’t know your means of communication.”

“I don’t know what you are talking about there,” the angel said, trying to attract attention. “But I'm not going to cooperate with them. What are you pushing me on? The most I can do for you is to promise to keep quiet about your call and our meeting.”

“And that’s all! I never reminded anyone of my services, I didn’t demand anything from anyone in return, but now you force me to remind you how much I did for you, how many times I saved you when you couldn’t handle the assigned task alone... Do you remember?”

“But this is greed! How can you?!”

“Uh, no ... It would be a greed if I had pla

ed to ask you in advance for something in return, but I hadn’t.”

“How do I know?”

“I don't need you to know that.”

Angel looked at Mary surprised and somewhat offended.

“I need God,” she continued, “to know about it.”
