CHAPTER 21. The last instruction

The woman who was named Christina at birth and who had the opportunity to care for George became a novitiate, making a step toward to the fulfillment of her promise she made.

Only cemetery workers looked after Georgie’s grave. Yet, he didn’t care: his soul perished together with his body. What he would be sad about are the lost flowers not needed by the state and therefore thrown into the garbage.

“So,” the one who Mary considered her chief began his last instruction, “you just don’t tell anyone what you’ve witnessed,” he whispered in Mary's ear. “Promise?”

She nodded, smiling. After all, it meant that someday they’d be able to return. But could this be considered a cause for celebration? It turned out that uncertainty had its own advantages. The name of this advantage was time.”

“Ahem!” Devil coughed. “Enough! Long goodbyes – extra tears. I’m tired, I want to rest. By the way, I’m already old, even ancient, one might say…”

Michael snorted. Deval glanced at him half-amusingly, half-angrily, reining him.

“Instruction...” The one standing next to Devil reminded him unobtrusively.

“Instruction? Ah, the instruction! Come on! Don’t they know themselves? They aren’t kids at all.” Devil waved his hand, turned around and went away, shouting to Michael on the go: “Consider it an unpaid leave! But I’ll get back from you everything…”

“No, wait!” the second exclaimed in surprise, catching up with Devil. “Instruction!”

“Just leave me alone!” Devil waved away peacefully and kept going.

“Do you have a handkerchief?” the interlocutor asked in a harsh voice.

They were still shouting and saying something to each other, but Michael and Mary hadn’t heard anything else. The morning mist covered the “chiefs”, leaving them alone for a period of time that would be enough even for people to figure out their feelings...

“Hey ...” Mary called Michael timidly, leaning closer to him in the mist that enveloped them. “We will help her, that girl, right?”

Michael frowned, not looking at the angel in his arms.

“Trying to help her means stepping onto the dangerous path of war with Devil himself. Are you sure that this is exactly what you would like to spend the allotted time on?”

Mary thought for a moment and seemed a little indecisive, but when she answered him, her voice sounded surprisingly firm:

“The only thing I’m sure of is that I can’t forget her eyes filled with the sadness of the whole world, and I can’t be happy and calm, always remembering her.”

“Well...We’ll do it your way, my angel,” Michael whispered, closing his eyes in anticipation of the nightmare that would fall upon them as soon as Devil found out about their plans, and holding Mary tightly to him, afraid to lose...

P.S.

Not every person has a possibility to go to the presentation of the book, so I decided to answer the most frequently asked question of my readers here: “What is this book about?”

This book is about the eternal struggle between good and evil… Inside each of us. Since it’s impossible to defeat external evil by encouraging internal one.

Traditionally, as in my previous books, there is a kind of “control question” as an interactive component. However, this time it’s not placed on a separate page, but on the contrary, is hidden inside. Yet, you may find much more questions and answers for yourself. At least, I really hope so...
