Have you been offered the opportunity to take part in a mentoring scheme, either as a mentor or mentee? What might this involve? How could it benefit you? What exactly is mentoring, anyway? A Greek by the name of Mentor stepped into the shoes of a King for the ten years of the Trojan Wars to develop his son for the responsibilities of the throne. These skills of mentoring have been nurtured over the centuries and are alive and well today in the development of our top leaders. Recent research shows mentoring is the most important source of learning at work after 'on the job' experience, and moreover it's a critical life skill for everyone. This book sets out what mentoring is, and how it's been used by Australia's best leaders in business, education, politics, public and sporting life. The vast majority had great mentors in their own lives, and all have now taken on that role themselves. Author, mentor and mentee, Peter Wilson, has spent over two years meeting and interviewing leading figures from politics and public life. In MAKE MENTORING WORK he shares their wisdom and advice. If you would you like to receive personal and career advice from two of Australia's three longest serving Prime Ministers, state premiers, a Governor General, Police commissioner, one of Australia's leading women CEOs, a world champion Wallaby Captain, the 2000 Australian Olympic team's flag-bearer, CEO of the Commonwealth Bank, Australia's first female Police Commissioner - among others - then step inside this book today. MAKE MENTORING WORK has general application for anyone considering the role of mentor or mentee.
