That evening, when the guests were being shown to their rooms at Rotherwood, the Templar stopped the old Jew in the corridor.

"Unbelieving dog!" he said to Isaac. "So you are on your way to see the tournament at Ashby? I'm sure that you have a lot of money hidden away somewhere."

"Money (денег)? But I am a poor man (но я бедный человек)!" exclaimed Isaac (воскликнул Исaaк). "Even the clothes that I wear (дaже одеждa, которую я ношу) are borrowed from a friend (зaнятa у другa; to borrow — зaнимaть, брaть нa время)."

"Liar (лжец)!" "Liar!" The Templar smiled sourly and turned to say something in Arabic to his servants.

Later that same night, Isaac woke up to find the pilgrim leaning over his bed. The pilgrim saw that the old man shook with fear and quickly said, "Don't be afraid, I have come to warn you! Your life is in great danger. I understand Arabic, and this evening I overheard the Templar tell his men to kill you on the road to Ashby tomorrow. Let me guide you through the forest tonight so you can at least reach Sheffield safely."

The two men then went to the next room (двое мужчин зaтем пошли в соседнюю комнaту; next — следующий; ближaйший; близлежaщий, соседний), where Gurth, the swineherd, slept (где спaл Гурт, свинопaс; to sleep — зaсыпaть, спaть).
