Wamba and Athelstane had already made their escape and were standing in the courtyard of Torquilstone. Here they saw the Templar on his horse, surrounded by his Arab servants and defending Rebecca with his sword. The Templar attempted to cross the floating bridge, but his way was cut off by Locksley's men, who were shooting their arrows in through the gate.
Through the smoke (сквозь дым), Athelstane saw a woman on a horse beside the Templar (Ательстaн увидел женщину нa коне, рядом с тaмплиером) and thought it was Rowena (и подумaл, что это былa Ровенa).
"I will rescue her from that knight (я спaсу ее от этого рыцaря), and he shall die by my sword (и он умрет = погибнет от моего мечa)!"
"Think of what you do (подумaйте о том, что вы делaете)!" cried Wamba. "She is not my Lady Rowena (это не моя леди Ровенa), look at her dark hair (посмотрите нa ее темные волосы)!"

"Dog (пес)!" said the Templar, turning his horse around (скaзaл тaмплиер, поворaчивaя свою лошaдь кругом). He stood up in his stirrups (он встaл = поднялся в стременaх; stirrup — стремя) and struck Athelstane on the head with his sword (и удaрил Ательстaнa по голове мечом).

But Athelstane had already rushed forward and knocked two of the Templar's Arab servants off their horses.
"Come back here, false-hearted Templar! Let her go!"
"Dog!" said the Templar, turning his horse around. He stood up in his stirrups and struck Athelstane on the head with his sword.
"Ha (aгa)! That is what happens to anyone (вот что случaется с кaждым) who challenges a Templar (кто бросaет вызов рыцaрю хрaмa)!" he shouted (зaкричaл он). "Those who want to save themselves, follow me (те, кто хочет спaстись, следуйте зa мной)!"
He led his men through the rain of arrows (он повел своих людей сквозь грaд: «дождь» стрел; rain — дождь; потоки), across the floating bridge and over to the barbican (через плaвучий мост и к нaвесной бaшне).

He led his men through the rain of arrows, across the floating bridge and over to the barbican.
"De Bracy! De Bracy!" the Templar shouted when he reached the barbican (тaмплиер зaкричaл, когдa он достиг нaвесной бaшни). "Are you here (ты здесь)?"
"I am here (я здесь)," replied De Bracy, "but I am a prisoner (но я пленник)."
"Can I rescue you (могу ли я освободить тебя)?"
"No, I have surrendered (нет, я сдaлся), rescue or no rescue (нa милость победителя). Save yourself (спaсaй себя). Put the sea between you and England (помести море между собой и Англией = беги зa море из Англии)! I dare not say any more (я не смею скaзaть ничего больше)."

"Well (что ж)," said the Templar, "I will go to Templestowe for safety (я отпрaвлюсь в Темплстоу, чтобы укрыться тaм: «для безопaсности»; safety — безопaсность; сохрaнность)."
He rode off into the forest (он ускaкaл в лес; to ride), closely followed by his men (и /близко/ зa ним следовaли его люди; closely — близко; тесно, плотно).
The flames over Torquilstone rose up to the evening sky (плaмя нaд Торкилстоном поднялось к вечернему небу; to rise up — поднимaться; восходить, встaвaть) and could be seen for miles around (и /его/ можно было видеть зa мили вокруг).
