CHAPTER 9

“What will happen if we fail our mission?”

“When we fail, then we'll find out. Until there’s no problem, there’s nothing to solve!” Michael shushed, hiding in the bushes surrounding a brick building.

“How’s that?” She straightened.

“Sit!” He pulled her hand and she went out of sight.

“Why is it always your way?” Mary asked offended.

“Because of the two of us, only I can think. And what your head is full of, only God knows for sure. As soon as I say, grab my hand and run after me.”

“In trail?”

“Wait, have you watched TV?”

“Ti...what?..”

“Kind of a small screaming box,” Michael explained, losing his temper.

“Yes.”

“That makes everything clear. Remember: angels are not supposed to watch TV.”

“Why on earth?!”

“Because angels are children, although, unfortunately, not all children are angels...”

“So what?”

“Children don’t have established concepts or a formed mental state. So they can be influenced by anything. And if you watch this box, I'm afraid it won’t be any good.”

“Can you explain what's so bad about it?”

“Here are my arguments: in this box by frequent displaying such things like drugs, sex, profanity, suicide, pedophilia, speculation, incest and other disgusting things are promoted. Of course, I won’t deny that there are good things in it as well. But to catch them, you have to watch all of the above...”

“But people watch it!”

“And what, you think everything that people do is good?”

Maria immediately remembered that terrible woman, the weeping grimy child and cruel Michael’s opponent who hadn’t failed to take advantage of his momentary weakness.

“No, but I liked it... There some people talk about other people. After all, they are trying! Just imagine, to tell about all the people all over the world! What kind of patience it takes!” Mary admired. “And what’s most important – they tell about those people like they know each other by their first names, last names!”

“They don’t tell about everyone...” Michael said almost crying, shaking his head and covering his eyes with his hands. “This is called PR. Some talk about others exclusively for an ax to grid.”

“Huh?”

“Not literally! This means that everyone has their own benefits!”

“That is, they are not telling about everyone?!” Angel was sincerely indignant.

“Gosh! No!”

“Why are you so nervous? It’s just TV! It doesn’t bother anyone. And in the evenings, people even talk about it. So this is good.”

“People talk about it simply because they have nothing more to say! In the end, I just forbid you to watch TV wherever and whenever! And as a final argument, the question is: does God do something bad?”

“No!”

“Does he watch TV?”

The imp threw an unequivocal glance at her, which, it seemed, was understood not only by her, but even by the bees circling around. She lowered her head with guilt and nodded either agreeing and promising to obey or pretending to agree.

“How did you know that I watched it?” Mary asked quietly.

Michael turned to her, abstracting again from tracking that was so important for them.

“You said ‘in trail’.”

“So what's the big deal? Don't people say that?”

“Only people from TV. More questions?”

“No. No questions... And?..”

“Yes?”

“No, nothing…”

“I’m more curious why you don’t know anything about modern technology…” He said thoughtfully.

Mary shrugged her shoulders.

“There are so many angels that to keep everyone busy, each is given a task every 70 to 100 years and the rest of the time we spend praying for people. So we find out about everything new when we come to complete our mission. In addition, we forget the previous tasks not to use any routine solutions later. To establish a routine is always a failure. Only a unique solution for a unique person and nothing else.”

Michael didn’t answer. He only frowned, looked at her and said nothing.
