All fifteen contributors were born and educated in County Mayo, and many of them still live there. All of them were engaged, at some level, in the theological enterprise before they were asked to reflect, precisely as Mayo people, on their own faith for this unique book. Their specialist areas range from pastoral ministry t scripture to liturgy, from poetry to feminism to Celtic spirituality, and from liberation theology to mariology to moral theology. Taken together, their contributions give a dynamic picture of a lively, creative and thinking local church in their home county. It is... exciting to find fifteen people from Mayo contributing to a Mayo book of theology. And a distinctive theology it proves: with the history and geography, the languages and images, the wealth and poverty of Mayo interacting fruitfully with the Christian faith-tradition. such and experiment must encourage a reflective and committed Irish church, the only kind of church which will survive into the new history and geography, the twenty-first century and a united Europe. - Archbishop Cassidy, in his preface.Mayoness is not all, even in theologians. The diversity of background, interest, activity and attitude of the fifteen contributors emerges clearly in this book. This background may lack the continental scope of central Europe or Latin America and their theologians, yet the diversity and the depth of the probings explore anew elements of the universal truth so scandalously founded in the particular villager we call Jesus the Christ. - Enda Mcdonagh, in his introduction.
