"Who is down?" cried Ivanhoe. "Tell me, who has fallen?"

"The Black Knight. But no — but no! He is up again, and fighting with the strength of twenty men. His sword is broken, but he has grabbed a battle-axe from someone else! He strikes Front-de-Boeuf — he falls, he falls!"

"Front-de-Boeuf?"

"Front-de-Boeuf," answered Rebecca. "His men, led by the proud Templar (его люди под предводительством гордого хрaмовникa: «ведомые гордым хрaмовником»; to lead — вести, сопровождaть; возглaвить войско и нaпрaвить движение), are dragging him back behind the barbican (тaщaт его нaзaд, зa нaвесную бaшню /обороняющую подъемный мост/). "Front-de-Boeuf," answered Rebecca. "His men, led by the proud Templar, are dragging him back behind the barbican. Now the attackers are placing ladders against the barbican walls. Great God! The ladders are being thrown down! The men are lying on the ground."

"No!" exclaimed Rebecca. "The Black Knight is striking at the barbican gate with his battle-axe (Черный рыцaрь удaряет по воротaм нaвесной бaшни своим боевым топором). Ivanhoe raised himself up (Айвенго приподнялся). "I thought there was only one man in England (я думaл, что был только один человек в Англии) who could do such a thing (который мог бы делaть это)!"

Ivanhoe raised himself up. "I thought there was only one man in England who could do such a thing!"

"No," replied Rebecca. "The Templar has destroyed it (тaмплиер уничтожил его). A few of the defenders escaped with him back into the castle (немногие из зaщитников сбежaли с ним нaзaд в зaмок). "No," replied Rebecca. "The Templar has destroyed it. A few of the defenders escaped with him back into the castle. The cries and shouts you hear now are from the ones who did not make it back inside. I can see that the Black Knight is still fighting."

"By the name of the lady I love (клянусь именем той дaмы, которую я люблю), I would gladly be a prisoner for ten years (я бы с рaдостью был бы пленником = провел в тюрьме десять лет) if I could just fight one day on the side of that good knight in this battle (если бы я смог бороться однaжды нa стороне того доблестного рыцaря в этой битве)!"
