The first meal of the day is breakfast. Most people try to have a good breakfast. Perhaps the most usual breakfast in England is some sort of cereal with cold milk, a cup of tea or coffee and toast with marmalade. On Saturdays and Sundays, people usually eat the traditional English breakfast. There is usually bacon, eggs, grilled sausages, grilled tomatoes and even fried bread. It is a very big meal and very unhealthy.

Maybe lunch isn’t such an important meal anymore, because Mum and Dad are at work and the children are at school. But, when the children are still at home, Mum makes a simple lunch for them. Maybe soup, pasta or salad. Lunch for people at work is usually something like a sandwich. There are a lot of take-away shops in England where you can buy ready-made sandwiches. Some of them are very good.
8. By the Sea
Britain is an island. British people like to go to the seaside for their holidays or at weekends or for a day. You can walk along the beach and climb the rocks. You can find small fish or even little crabs under the rocks. The most wonderful thing is the smell of the sea, of the sea air. It is fresh, salty and clean. In Summer, people like to sunbathe. They lie on a towel on a beach or sit in deck chairs. Sometimes people take a picnic with them, eat sandwiches, drink beer, lemonade or coca cola. Children love swimming and making sandcastles in the sand. But the sea around Britain is very cold. It is not like swimming in the warm Mediterranean Sea. It can also be very dangerous. The waves can be very big and strong. But when the waves are big and there is a lot of wind, people like surfing, wind surfing or sailing. Children like to build sandcastles in the sand or play ball games. Of course, people don’t swim in the sea in the winter. Usually it is too cold and very dangerous. You also need a camping gas stove together with pans and metal plates. And don’t forget a tin-opener. And, of course, you need a very big rucksack to carry all your things. If you have a car then of course you can put all your things in the car. A lot of young people don’t have a car. They have to carry all their things in their rucksacks. Most people camp on a campsite. These are usually large and clean. There are showers, areas for washing your pots and pans, and washing machines. There is a restaurant and usually one or two small shops. There you can buy fresh food, bread, water, wine and beer.
