 My first request after I had got my freedom was to see Mildendo, the capital city. The Emperor gave me permission on condition that I did not do any damage to people or houses. The city is surrounded by a wall, two and a half feet high, with strong towers ten feet apart. I stepped over the western gate and walked gently through the two main streets.
