Chapter 5

I awoke to find soil in my nose, leaves crinkling underneath my cheeks, and the sound of the moaning wind as it rustled through the trees. My skin was bare and cool, yet I didn’t feel overly cold. Just slightly chilled.

“Tala?” a deep, husky voice said beside me.

I pushed a mass of blond hair from my eyes and rolled onto my side to see the hunter laid out as naked as the day he was born. He was propped up on his elbow, a half-tilted curve to his lips, and a deep-seated glow lighting his eyes.

My heart jolted as I took in our surroundings. We were in a forest, on the ground, and both of us had apparently joined the naked hippy commune.

“What time is it?” I didn’t bother covering my bare breasts which were smudged with dirt. My nipples were erect, standing on end in the chilled air, but at this point, I was beyond trying to maintain any dignity.

Kaillen’s nostrils flared as the halo of gold brightened around his eyes. His gaze skated over my bare abdomen and my breasts’ taut buds. “No idea, but my guess is mid-morning.”

“So we spent the entire night out here?”

“We did.”

I rolled my bottom lip between my teeth and tried to remember what had happened. I vaguely recalled giving the hunter a blow job. The need to do so before I’d shifted had been so overwhelming that I hadn’t questioned it. My cheeks heated a bit at the thought of how brazen I’d been, but I also remembered that the hunter really enjoyed it.

But after I’d shifted, everything else got fuzzy. What I did recall told me that there’d been a lot of ru

Gods . . .

I hesitantly felt inside myself for my wolf, and found her curled up and asleep. Thank the mother of all the realms. I didn’t want to deal with whatever her demands were this morning, because knowing that I’d been naked since last night, had felt no hesitation whatsoever about giving fellatio in the great outdoors, and had run around yipping like a hyena all night? Yep. I needed a minute.

After plucking a few soggy leaves from my hair, I ran a hand through a snarled tendril. The icy breeze caressed my skin, and I finally crossed my arms, ’cause the hunter was obviously really enjoying the view if his throbbing erection was any indication.

My gaze snagged again to his cock, and a fuzzy memory surfaced of the feel of him in my mouth and the taste of his cum on my lips.

An ache curled low in my belly. It would be so easy to roll him onto his back, straddle his hips and sink down onto that glorious shaft. I could ride him until the pulsing need in my core exploded into another mind-blowing orgasm.

My mouth went dry when I envisioned how absolutely enthralling sex with the hunter would be. I’d experienced the oral side of it a couple of times, but he had yet to penetrate me. But twice I’d let him pleasure me to climax, and that alone had made me see stars. I couldn’t even imagine what riding his dick would be like. It would probably transport me to a new realm.

I curled my fingers tightly into my palms, so I wouldn’t cave in to this instinct.

His nostrils flared, and a low rumble vibrated in his chest as another throb made his cock bob. He opened his mouth, but I forced my gaze up and asked before he could say anything, “Do you know where your house is?”

He cleared his throat, his breathing fast, as the strong lub-dub of his erratic heartbeat reached my ears. “About two miles that way.” He pointed through the trees and rolled languidly to his feet, his large body agile and sleek. He took a step closer to me, heat wafting from his skin. His cock bobbed again, and I was so tempted to reach for it.

A slight smile curved his lips, as that glow blazed in his eyes. “I enjoyed last night.”

I pushed to a stand as that pulsating need inside me grew. “You did?”

His look turned entirely predatory. “Very much.”

“Does that mean you remember it?”

“I do. I’ve had my wolf with me for years. It might be hazy for you since it was your first shift, but the more you get used to cohabiting with your wolf, the more you’ll be in sync with her. Soon, when she’s in control, you’ll be there too.”

“So yours isn’t sleeping right now?”

“No, he’s wide awake. He usually sleeps when I do.”

“So he’s always awake when you are?”

“Usually.”

“Mine’s not. She’s still asleep.”

“That’s normal when you’re newly shifted. Eventually, you’ll be in sync with one another.”

“So weird,” I whispered. I tried to concentrate on what I’d just learned, which was a feat in itself because the hunter’s citrusy cedar scent intermixed with a heady dose of musk told me that I wasn’t the only one wanting to climb the other right now. Liquid heat pooled between my thighs at the thought.

Another low growl came from the hunter. “Your scent is mouthwatering, colantha.”

I gulped, because more than anything I wanted to wrap my legs around him and fuck him till I no longer knew my name. I knew he would let me, that he’d welcome it. I could push him to the ground, climb on top of him, straddle him, and ride him until I was screaming his name.

Breathing hard, I forced my thoughts to shift to more practical matters and tried to dispel this overwhelming urge to mate with him.

I released one of my crossed arms and ran a hand through my hair, trying to work out the tangles as lust consumed me. My breasts jiggled with the movement, and the hunter’s attention drifted south.

The musk in his scent grew so potent that it was the only scent I could detect from him. He took a step closer, his hand drifting to my waist. His fingers curled into my flesh, his touch as hot as a brand, and I knew he was holding himself back. That if things went his way, he’d be fucking me against a tree in my next breath.

“About last night. About what you did before you shifted . . .” he said in a low, husky tone.

“I don’t remember most of it!” I slammed my hands to my eyes just as a stirring sensation began inside me.

My wolf roused, stretching and then yawning as she became aware of the hunter’s presence. She whined, her nails scratching against my insides, her eagerness to run free making me take a huge step back.

“You don’t remember what you did to me before you shifted?” His nostrils flared.

Knowing he could scent my deceit, I came clean. “No, I do remember it.”

“Does that mean—”

“Fuck, this is weird.” I scratched at my chest, wishing she would go back to sleep, because I had enough to deal with right now given my own reaction to the hunter’s nudity.

Kaillen cocked his head, his attention coming back to my face, but that potent musky fragrance still clung to him. “Is it your wolf?”

I nodded, not able to meet his eye. The dude’s boner was still commanding all of my attention.

My wolf whined again.

I nearly tripped when I heard that sound inside me, but I did my best to ignore my wolf’s growing interest, because the reality was that Kaillen and I were naked in the woods. This was full-blown streaker activity on steroids. Not to mention, I’d just spent the night as an animal, and now all I wanted to do was climb all over the hunter right out in the open. What the hell? Had I completely lost all rational and sane decision-making abilities?

“Can we go back to your house?” I scratched at my skin again. “I want to shower and put clothes on, and you know, feel human again.”

His expression didn’t falter, but another scent rose from him that hinted at anise. “Are you okay?”

“Fine, totally fine,” I said through clenched teeth. My wolf whined again, urging me toward the hunter.

Stop it! I snapped at her.

Her head jerked back, as if I’d just slapped her, but then she bared her teeth.

Are you fucking kidding me?

But I didn’t direct that question at her, that one was entirely for myself at how absolutely insane this entire situation was.

I scrubbed my hands against my face, then stilled when I sensed Kaillen’s presence directly in front of me, only inches away. He touched my waist again.

“It’ll get easier,” he said quietly.

His hand began making soft, soothing motions. He felt so good, so warm and solid. But the hunter’s gentle words and touch only fueled the rising flames of my freaking-the-fuck-out.

“It shouldn’t have to get easier.” I lunged back, breaking our contact. My wolf growled, but I ignored her. “I wasn’t born a werewolf. I shouldn’t be in this position.”

Kaillen’s jaw locked, some of his potent arousal dimming. “No, you shouldn’t be, but it was either give you my blood or watch you die.”

“But you didn’t have to spell your blood,” I reminded him, then crossed my arms. “You didn’t need to bind me to you, and in the process, give me your werewolf mojo or whatever the hell happened. If you hadn’t, I wouldn’t be naked in the woods with a canine growling at me.”

He frowned. “She’s growling at you?”

“You’re missing the point.”

He took a deep breath. “Right. Sorry. I’ll keep apologizing if it makes anything better.” That mandarin and honeysuckle scent rose from him like before, and I knew he was being genuine. Ugh.

“Why are you being so nice right now?”

He quirked an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t I be nice to you?”

“Because you’re also a demon?”

“Look, I know this is hard for you.” He closed the distance between us again, and his fingers brushed mine.

My wolf whined eagerly.

I pulled my hand back. “You said your house was that way?” I jerked my thumb behind us.

He nodded, so I did a one-eighty and began walking in that direction. I felt his gaze rake over my frame with every step I took. His musky scent once again saturated the air.

“It’s rude to be perving right now,” I called over my shoulder.

He chuckled, then jogged to my side. “It’s hard not to. You have the sexiest ass I’ve ever seen.”

I snorted, even if another aching curl knotted my belly. “Did it ever occur to you that there might be other people out here watching us? What if there’s a hunter in a tree stand right now videoing us and posting it on social media?”

“There’s nobody out here but us.”

“How can you be so sure?” I stepped over a rotting wood log, not entirely sure where I was going, but I figured Kaillen would steer me back on track if I headed the wrong way.

“This is my land.”

“All of it?” When he nodded, I asked, “How many acres do you own?”

“Fifty thousand.”

My eyes bugged out. “Seriously? That had to cost a fortune.”

“Perhaps, but it also means I can run in my wolf form whenever I like and not worry about neighbors.”

“What about trespassers?”
