And I hated everything I did to her.
Hated the thought of Clayton being anywhere near her.
Couldn’t fucking stand the one time I’d allowed him to consummate the marriage so she wouldn’t wonder why the fuck he never touched her.
I’d saved her life by removing her from Georgia, and saved the twins by ruining Luca’s life.
Now, here we are, three years later and the twins are functional again. They’re sane for the most part. They are partners in the firm and have financial freedom from the demented fuck that raised them.
Luca was supposed to be financially free as well, and I was supposed to have those servers.
And the sad truth is that I don’t even know if what her father had on our fathers is enough to actually destroy them. All I have at this point is a hunch.
“Let me talk to her,” Gabriel suggests, his voice an island of calm at my back.
“It won’t do any good.”
“Except I’m better at handling people than you are.”
Glancing over my shoulder at him, I cock a brow. “I’m damn good at handling people.”
“You’re good at destroying them,” he says matter of fact. “At scaring the shit of them, and at creating the game and arranging the players. But when it comes to actually dealing with people, you suck.”
“People suck,” I argue.
“Which is why I’m better at that part of the game. I agree you’re in no mood to deal with Luca, and I’d venture to guess you did a shitty job of explaining yourself to her in the first place.”
My feet stop, and I turn to face him.
“She might have also been mad because we had sex before I told her.”
Gabriel blinks, his shoulders shaking once as he turns his head to hide his expression. I have a feeling he’s laughing at me again.
“Let me talk to her,” he says. “I’ll head over to your house to smooth things over with Luca after I’m done fixing things here.”
Confused at that, I tuck my hands in my pockets and lean against the wall. “What do you have to fix here?”
Staring at me like I’ve grown a second head, Gabriel stands up from his seat, tugs at his sleeve cuffs and meets my stare.
“There are a lot of things you can say to attorneys you feel have messed up, Ta
“I am Human Resources. My name is on the building.”
Judging by his expression, he doesn’t agree.
“You’re not allowed to talk to anybody for the rest of the day. I’ll ensure nobody comes into your office, but when you leave, it’s to go directly to the elevators and straight home.”
He turns to walk out, and I run a hand through my hair, remember the ink and then curse under my breath.
Highly doubting Gabriel will be able to calm Luca down, I return to my desk and drop my weight into the executive chair.
My eyes look out over the city, and I spend the next few hours plotting how I’ll convince Luca to love me again.
