Turning to glare down at him, I slip a hand into my pocket and step back.
“What would you know about that?”
He grins, the expression tight given the sudden swelling in his face. “You kids act like we’re not paying attention. All nine of you are fucking disappointments.”
“Back to Luca,” I say, not in the mood for their usual gripe that we’re worthless sons who never amounted to anything. “Why would you bring her up?”
His eyes lift to mine, something written behind them that sparks a fresh wave of anger inside me.
“I’m just saying you might want to keep a better eye on her this time. You have three weeks left to finish this game. It’s the last chance we’re giving you.”
He laughs and spits blood from his mouth, a tooth clinking against the floor that I must have knocked loose.
