“Beautiful,” Damien murmurs.

I turn my head at the sound of his voice.

He’s leaning against my bedroom door, impeccably dressed in a dark suit, looking good enough to eat.

But it’s the devilish smirk on his face that makes my breath catch.

I finish fastening my earrings. “How long have you been standing there?”

His smirk deepens. “A while.”

I motion to my dress. “Is this too much for breakfast?”

I chose a simple light pink shift dress, but the heels I’m rocking make it appear even shorter. And it’s plenty short already.

His gaze drops to my legs. “It’s perfect.” His expression turns serious. “I don’t want you alone with Cain again.”

Those blue orbs darken as he closes the distance between us. “I don’t like it.”

“I’m not over the moon about it either, but it’s part of the plan.” I open my closet and pull out a jacket. “Ready?”

“Not yet.” He holds up a black object. “I want you to keep this on you at all times.”

“What is it?”

He presses a button and a blade snaps up. “A knife.” He gestures to the curve. “See that angle?”

I nod.

“It’s specifically designed to do some damage. If he ever hurts you again, I want you to use it. If anyone hurts you, I want you to use it. Understand?”

“How am I supposed to conceal a knife?”

He grins as he pulls something lacy out of his pocket. “This should do the trick.”
